buggirl asked: Hi! I love that your daughter is a future entomologist and you nurture her love for the natural world. It's so cool. Anyway, in case you didn't know, your leaf bug is a Greater Angle Winged Katydid. Microcentrum rhombifolium. And it will puke in self defense if you pick it up ( so strange!). Have a great day!
Sorry it took so long to answer. I don’t log in often unless Gwynn asks me too. Thank you so much for the information! I’m glad you enjoy her blog.
Gwynn caught a very ragged looking Painted Lady butterfly today. It didn’t want to hold still for a picture.
The Name of the Toad.
My toad’s name is Toadzilla. He is very fat and when you pick him up he will chirp. He lives with 3 tiny frogs. He stays under his rock a lot but I will try to get a picture of his home and the frogs with the toad. We have a little plastic bread shaped sandwich box that is use for sack lunches for a water bowl. It has 2 rocks in it. We feed him crickets from J. & K. the crickets cost $1.00. J.& K. is a pet story with poor animels that need good homes. There are cats, pigs, turtles, fish, snails, little lobsters, birds, guniea pigs, hampsters, rats, mice, snakes, bugs, lizierds, and kittens. People say that if you get peed on by a toad you would get warts but I got peed on by a toad and I never got warts. I got my toad from W.C.Mills Elementry School. The tiny frogs sometimes sit on Toadzilla’s head. When I feed him and the tiny frogs the toad stays out until he is full or all the crickets are gone or done moveing a lot. It is so cool to see him eat the crickets because of when he flicks his tongue. They have to blink to swallow. They need light to keep them warm and to help them digest their food.
This is a leaf bug. I found him near the tree in my yard. I have found dead ones at the park before. He didn’t want to get off of me, but I let him go on the tree.
There are five daddy long legs in my hand. I found them along a fence during my brother’s football game. They wouldn’t cooperate. I let them go.
These hatched today from some caterpillars that I found that turned into chrysalises. One of them is smaller than the other. The big one has red on the underside of it’s wings. The other one has different colors. The one with it’s wings closed is the smaller one. The smaller one didn’t want to get off the stick and on to the porch. The big one did, though.
